Art Shades

All the lampshades you see on my website are designed and made by me. Most are true one-offs, others I have replicated when a customer has ordered a shade that has already sold. I’ve been making artisan lampshades from appliquéd papers since 1999. I started out making half shades – a shape that was very hard to find despite its immense practicality. Inspired by the play of light and depth of colour in stained glass windows, I used the technique of reverse appliqué (most familiar to quilt makers) to recreate the effect in colourful plant-fibre papers.
