In 1997 the business sold the dealerships to concentrate on the contract hire side, the level of growth was such that it soon became apparent that a disposal arm was needed for the best retail cars returning from lease, in 2000 Carnet Motor Specialists in Beaconsfield was purchased and our vehicles were snapped up by customers looking for one owner, full service history cars, at the best possible prices. The Carnet site had one negative in that it was leasehold, and in 2004, the business purchased Forge Garage at Terrick near Aylesbury and moved its retail operation here. This proved slightly tricky as the site holds 16 cars and we stock nearly 50, however with some local storage we make this work and any advertised vehicle can be viewed on site. For the last 21 years our senior management team has remained the same, approachable, fair and always putting our customers first, we only sell the best cars from our forecourt, the rest go to auction, we take the best part exchanges quality check them and sell them, giving our overall offering of cars from £1,500 to currently £68,495.
Sir George Kenning, our managing director's grandfather, was the originator of contract hire a century ago, when he leased bicycles to Shell Oil's commercial travellers and horses to BP to pull tank wagons. In 1985 our managing director formed GK Leasing alongside the franchised Ford dealers he took over in Chesham and Amersham, the sales developed rapidly and the business acquired the Ford franchise for High Wycombe and Vauxhall in Trowbridge.
