Our ‘Juniors and Mini Tigers’ class is aimed at younger students from 4 to 9 years old and uses a combination of games and interactive activities to develop the key motor skills required by this age group. However this is NOT just a an hour of play, students will also develop a good understanding of the basic principles of Shotokan Karate as well as undertaking belt examinations (gradings) every 3 to 4 months. Established in 2002 by Club Chief Instructor Geoff Dixon, Grantham Shotokan has grown to be one of the largest and most successful traditional karate clubs in the Grantham area. The club has over 100 students with ages from 4 years to 80 years old and trains out of a dedicated dojo with a fully matted training area, changing rooms and a wide range of training equipment. Affiliated to JKS England and through them to the English and British Karate Federations as well as the European and World Karate Federations (WKF) — the WKF is the Karate Governing Body chosen by the IOC to present Karate at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020.
Children over 9 years and adults (no upper age limit) practice together in our ‘mixed grade’ group where training is a little more intense, but where there is a range of higher grades to offer support and aid development regardless of age, experience or ability.
