Tom Slator, Principal at Maccallum Slator provides a personal accounting service to help clients comply with statutory accounting and tax obligations. He will advise business owners on how to add value, achieve goals and find creative answers on how to deal with financial problems and enhance opportunities. For individuals, he will plan how to pass on their estate and manage estate administration personally and efficiently. In 1985, along with associate Neil Maccallum, Tom set up Maccallum Slator, Chartered Accountants. The firm, based in central London, quickly developed a large client base of individuals and owner managed businesses, Neil has subsequently retired. Tom set up an office in Cirencester to provide insolvency services and acted as the appointed insolvency practitioner in many company liquidations, individual voluntary arrangements and bankruptcies. Maccallum Slator has continually developed its IT systems using the best software to provide compliance with accounting and tax legislation. This enables efficient digital filing for Accounts and Tax Returns so that we comply with the new Making Tax Digital rules making the firm as ‘paperless’ as possible. After 2014 the Institute of Chartered Accountants became able to authorise its members to undertake non contentious probate work. This work had previously been reserved to Solicitors, but this was able to be changed following the Legal Services Act. In view of Tom being a ‘baby boomer’ and now thinking about the implications of mortality and inheritance planning, Tom made the switch in 2018 from being a licensed insolvency practitioner (although he can still advise on such matters) to become an authorised probate practitioner (having passed the relevant examination).
