My name is Carol Eves. I’m from Scarborough, it’s where I was born and where I raised my son, Rory. Scarborough is the place where I have my strongest memories from my life and where I am most comfortable in this world. At an early age, Scarborough inspired me to express myself through the arts. It was music and singing with the church choir at St Columba's, and it was dance at Mamie Benson’s Academy; however, it was with my granny where I discovered my life’s passion, sewing. We would spend hours creating dresses for my dolls — patiently mulling over every detail: the style, the fabric, but most importantly, the colours. My granny taught me that sewing was a way to connect with the community.
Material Moves was established in 2012 and has earned a reputation for offering quality workshops to customers. In 2016 we introduced a range of quality dress making fabrics and haberdashery for your projects, available in the shop. Material Moves is owned by me - Carol Eves - and I'm the the tutor of all the classes and workshops at the sewing studio. I have lots of experience and provide expert advice to customers across Scarborough and North Yorkshire.
