This legislation however is not yet in place. Cars are rigorously tested, often twice yearly, to a standard much higher than the national public requirement and are subject to spot checks by Trading Standards inspectors. Public liability insurance is mandatory and is more than adequately provided as a minimum requirement for all drivers.
