Seaham Sea Glass Jewellery

Seaham Sea Glass Jewellery is a new business venture started in July 2012. We stumbled across sea glass collecting in the autumn of 2011 and have to say we were hooked from the outset! In the early 1850's the Londonderry Bottle Company, owned by John Candlish from Sunderland was the largest bottling business in Europe. By 1872 Candlish had 6 glasshouses at Seaham. At the end of the day any discarded and waste glass was dumped into the North Sea. The bottleworks were demolished in 1950. The sea glass found today comes from those discarded pieces of glass from 'end of day' works. Some of the sea glass found has been 'surf tumbled' by the motion of the North Sea for over a hundred years!

In the short time that we have been collecting we have discovered many beautiful pieces of sea glass from beaches around the North East of England. We have since decided to take the sea glass collecting to the next level and started making our own sea glass jewellery.
