Alan Hardie Architect

Having travelled throughout Scotland from Edinburgh and the Lothians to the Highlands and Western Isles, his work has included stadia, commercial units, offices, interior space planning, retail, manufacturing and industrial design. Nowadays he concentrates primarily on residential work, including new housing, extensions, remodelling and loft and garage conversions of any kind - but remains happy to turn his hand to any type of project. My approach to design ensures that technical performance and budget delivery are given as much thought as the conventional design values of space, form and light. I am particularly aware that many clients or home owners seeking advice from an Architect may do so only once, and need reassurance that their aspirations will be understood and their budget will be met. I have previously worked with Cooper Cromar in their Edinburgh office on high profile projects such as the Budongo chimp house at Edinburgh Zoo and The Element Flats at Western Harbour for FM Homes. Prior to that, six years were spent at BDG McColl primarily on the refit of Motorolla's manufacturing plant at Bathgate and including work on major office developments in Edinburgh. Work with Colin Armstrong Associates in Inverness focused on residential work throughout the Highlands and Islands and prior to that, with Percy Johnson-Marshall (now jmarchitects) included the design of football stadia at McDiarmid Park for St Johnstone FC and Bumper Stadium in Chester. Earlier - training was completed at Thomson Craig & Donald in Aberdeen. Details of the experience gained in all these practices can be found under my "portfolio" tab.
