With at least 220 yards to the corner of the dog-leg and trouble left and right the drive must be straight and long in order to set up a second shot to the green. Things don’t get any easier when players step onto the fourth — the hardest hole on the course! Any drives that fly left are out of bounds and even the longest of tee-shots leaves an approach shot of up to 200 yards. The par-five fifth offers no let up either. The newly-redesigned water hazard poses a real threat at around 275 yards from the tee while deep rough protects the left side of the fairway for the length of the hole. Stunning views over Pendle Hill await players when they reach the sixth, a well-bunkered par three where trouble lurks left, right and short to penalise any wayward approaches. Hole seven, named Mill Lane, requires a straight tee shot and an accurate approach to a green protected with sharp slopes.

Measuring more than 6400 yards from the tips, the course opens with two fairly gentle par fours before really showing its teeth from the third. Arguably the most daunting tee-shot on the course, the drive on number three puts a premium on both accuracy and power.
