Business Info

At McAteer’s, we offer a caring and professional service for all the family, including a complete range of quality products at affordable prices. We provide comprehensive eye examinations using modern equipment and advanced computerised techniques. Employees working with computer screens and those requiring industrial safety spectacles are also catered for. At McAteer’s, an eye examination carried out by one of our friendly, fully qualified Optometrists, takes about 30 minutes. The examination is a lot more than just measuring your eyes for glasses. Your eyes can reveal important signs about your general health, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes and even multiple sclerosis. Often health problems and some serious eye diseases do not show any symptoms, yet they can be detected through an eye test. This is why regular eye tests are very important, even for those who don’t wear glasses.

J L McAteer’s is an independent optician’s practice situated close to the de Courcy Centre, in the centre of Carrickfergus. In April 2018, we celebrated 35 years in business. Lynne McAteer, who qualified as an ophthalmic optician from Manchester University, started trading in Carrickfergus on 6th April 1983. She has over 40 years experience working as an optometrist.
