Hi, I’m Kath and I’ve been working with massage since 2007. I am registered with the Massage Training Institute (MTI) and the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and abide by their code of ethics. How did I get into massage? Well I think that massage actually found me and I love it. Most of my life I have used massage as a means of aiding relaxation. I spent 30 years in the corporate world developing software and massage was my way to take time out and switch off, to step out of my mind and into my body, and just be. When I tripped over my own feet in 2005 and managed to pop the tendons in my shoulder (an injury common to rugby players!) massage helped me immensely. Although the tendons in my shoulder healed very well, the muscles remained tight and painful still trying to support the injury and massage for me helped the muscles learn to relax and soften again.
Treatments vary depending on the type of massage required. They may be gentle and relaxing or involve deeper work and advanced bodywork techniques. In order for you to get the most out of your treatment you need to be comfortable. Massage treatments can either be couch or chair-based. If you prefer a couch-based massage but find it uncomfortable lying on your front or back, side lying massage is an option.
