Having worked as an upholsterer in Naples in Italy, Alessio came to England in 1963 and found work at W.G. Undrills in Cambridge. In 1976 he decided to leave to set up his own business. Maiorana Upholstery grew, and as the work came in, he had to employ other staff to help him with the work. After having 2 workshops in the centre of Cambridge, in 1987 the company moved to its present location which is situated in Trumpington, Cambridge.
