Every limited company has to send a confirmation statement to Companies House each year. This is an official form, stating that the information that Companies House holds on the company, is correct. If there are changes, the form is used to update the company’s record.

There is only a two-week window for getting the confirmation form in, and paying the necessary fee. Failing to get the statement in on time is a criminal offence. That’s why so many companies use our services to ensure that the form is filed correctly and within the relevant period. We include the filing costs charged by Companies House in our general services fee.

The confirmation statement used to be called an annual return, but people tended to confuse this with the annual accounts and the name was changed. The data you have to check and confirm includes the company’s name and address, together with the type of business or trade in which it is engaged. This means entering a Standard Industrial Classification number (SIC code). Confirmation statement filing in Liverpool is straightforward if you are one of our clients, so you don’t have to worry about looking it up - we’ll do this for you.

These accounts are more complex than the simple turnover, expenses and profit statements that a sole trader can provide.

An accountant will take away the burden of producing these more complicated accounts and will explain in plain English exactly what your tax liabilities under corporation tax will be.

You have nine months after your company’s year-end to get the statements to Companies House; for HMRC, the timeline is twelve months after your year-end. If you were previously a sole trader, you will have received requests from HMRC to pay the tax due; however, with a limited company, it is up to you to submit your returns and pay your tax on time.

What is more, both Companies House and HMRC need the information presented on the correct forms and in the correct format. This is where limited company accountants in Liverpool will show their worth, ensuring that your company complies with these requirements and meets the deadlines.

There are items that you can claim as expenses that you may not be aware of. One of the advantages of our limited business accountancy services Liverpool is that we will ensure you are making use of all the tax allowances that apply and that your company is operating in a tax-efficient way while staying within the HMRC guidelines.

Every year, the tax, national insurance and pension arrangements for employees are subject to changes from HMRC or from the budget.

As a small or medium-sized business, you are now obliged to supply HMRC with real-time payroll information, incorporating these changes. Add to this staff turnover and employee changes in circumstances and it’s clear that payroll management in Liverpool and elsewhere has turned into a major headache.

Luckily, when it comes to payroll services Liverpool firms and those in the surrounding areas have a cost-effective alternative because they can simply delegate their payroll to us. As chartered accountants, we’re always up to date with the latest tax, national insurance and auto-enrolment pension changes, so we can ensure that deductions are correctly calculated and reported.

Our company and staff payroll solutions in Liverpool can cope with the payroll changes when staff become sick or take maternity pay and we can also ensure that the minimum wage is paid across the correct periods, where appropriate.

VAT

VAT is one of the most complex taxes that you’ll ever have to deal with. But if that wasn’t bad enough, constant changes to UK legislation added to the unknowns of Brexit make this area even more daunting to the average business.

If you run a VAT-registered business, you act as an unpaid tax collector, and you’ll need to account accurately as well as promptly for the taxes that you collect. Do it incorrectly and you could receive a hefty fine from HMRC. Ignorance is not an acceptable excuse for not complying with the rules.

What's more, deadlines are tight under the standard VAT scheme, with businesses having around only five weeks to collate its VAT information together and submit it to HMRC.
