Openshaw Opticians was first established in 1946 by Robert Openshaw when he bought out Stansfield Jewellers (est. 1885)in cleckheaton. Robert who was a pharmacist by profession, took a further diploma in optometry to become a chemist based optician. Because Robert’s father was a jeweller, the new building became a jewellers as well as an optician.
