With its wealth of natural features, the Abergavenny area has become a popular destination for walkers and ramblers. From the many castles nearby, dating back to when the area was hotly disputed as the border land between England and Wales, to the wonderful hills and mountains of the Brecon Beacons. Abergavenny itself hosts many interesting events through the year, from the Vintage Steam rally - which takes place in Bailey Park (next door to Park Guest House), to the Abergavenny Food Festival which takes over the whole town for a weekend every September and which won the accolade of "Greatest Event in Wales" (Wales Tourist Board 2004).
