Best Friends Veterinary Group was established in 1991 at the Broadway Peterborough site. The branch was awarded ‘Hospital Status’ by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Over the past 26 years, the group has grown to 21 sites from the Midlands through to London. The group provides these students with financial support, transport, supervised practical sessions and one-to-one training with a qualified veterinary surgeon or nurse. Without these approved training centres, student nurses would be unable to fulfil their chosen careers. Best Friends now employs several veterinary surgeons who have or are studying certificates in ophthalmology, cardiology, exotics and orthopaedics.
