In 1927 two business men founded Ponteland Golf Club. They bought just enough land to build a 9 hole course which served the local community for 4 years. In 1931 more land was bought and another 9 holes added to create a full 18 hole course. At that time, the Club house was just a wooden hut. In 1937 a permanent Club house was built which today still stands proudly overlooking the final hole and 1st tee.

Bedlingtonshire Golf Club was founded in 1972 by Bedlingtonshire Urban District Council. The Council saw the need for additional sporting facilities in the town and purchased 127 acres of land (100 acres of which had been opencast mined) from the National Coal Board who restored, landscaped and fenced the site.
