The Spread Eagle has graced the heart of the historic market town of Thame since the 16th Century. The Grade I listed hotel is nestled amongst the artisan butchers, bakers, delicatessens and teashops that line the charming town centre, which is used as a filming location for ITV’s Midsummer Murders. During its colourful history, The Spread Eagle has played host to many historic figures such as King Charles II, and writers such as Evelyn Waugh and John Fothergill (An Innkeepers Diary).

Located in the village of Stokenchurch in the Chiltern foothills where Dick Turpin once roamed, sits our family-run historic hotel. For over 350 years it has welcomed guests — from King Charles II in the 17th century to locals from Marlow, High Wycombe and Henley-on-Thames in more recent years — with a cold beverage, a hearty meal and a cosy place to stay.

Our boutique hotel is ideal for nature and city lovers with nearby river punting along the River Thames, bicycle and walking routes as well as museums, shopping, and the beautiful Oxford colleges all within easy access.
