Crantock Cottages

Old bread ovens can be seen in Lanherne Cottage next door, but unfortunately, the ones in Churchgate broke up during the renovation. One former tenant of Lanherne Cottage, Mrs. Mogridge used to be able to detect the smell of baking bread late at night, along with several visitors since. She remembered once being woken up by the smell and when she went downstairs to investigate, found that her oven, although switched off, was quite hot, despite the fact that she had not used it that day!

Crantock Village still retains a traditional feel. It has a beautiful church, a central village green, a general store/newsagents/post office and a number of craft/art shops and galleries plus a choice of two Pubs.

Services

Churchgate Cottage sleeps 4. The dwelling comprises of an entrance hall, living room with digital TV and DVD player, two bedrooms (one double bedded and one with full-size bunk beds), and bathroom with basin, WC and bath/shower.

The kitchen is fully equipped with an electric cooker, fridge, microwave and toaster, along with a CD player/radio. Heating is by night storage heaters & electric oil filled radiators and there is an immersion heater for hot water. A travel cot and high chair are also available.

There is parking space for one car at the back of the cottage. Churchgate also has a small raised patio area with seating. We must highlight that this is accessed by steep steps and may, therefore, be unsuitable for small children and those unstable on their feet.

Crantock Stores - distance 5-minute walk.

There is one small general store/newsagents/post office in the village. Alternatively, Morrisons have a large supermarket on the outskirts of Newquay about 3 miles away. Crantock also hosts a small number of art/craft/gift shops and galleries.

Crantock Beach - distance 600yards Beautiful Crantock Beach is ideal for surfers, bathers, walkers or just sunbathers. The warm water of the Gannel at low tide is popular with children. Swimming in the Gannel at any other time, however, can be very dangerous due to strong currents; therefore parents and adult bathers must beware. Lifeguards, who do offer advice as to where on the beach it is safe to enter the water, patrol the beach in the summer months. There is a beach cafe and ice creams hut but again open only during the season. During this time of year, you can also cross the Gannel at Fern Pit, either over the footbridge at low tide or by ferry. This service does not continue into the evening.

Other beaches to visit are; Porth Joke (Polly Joke to the locals) up at West Pentire. It is a long walk down, and there are no facilities once you get there, but it is worth the effort! Fistral Beach in Newquay, of course, most famous for surfing, is a beach for all age groups. Porth Beach on the outskirts of Newquay heading out in the Padstow direction, with parking on the beach is often a favorite with families.
