Established in 2009, our modern veterinary practice underwent a complete renovation to include 3 consulting rooms, diagnostic and operating facilities and the only digital radiography equipment in the area. We pride ourselves in offering a high quality, professional service with a personal touch.

Westway Vets was established in 1975. We have 19 branches across Tyne and wear, Durham and Northumberland which are supported by our Tier 3 RCVS hospital in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

We offer a full range of veterinary services for the Chester Le Street area, and welcome clients from the surrounding areas. Currently, clients of the practice also live in Consett, High Spen, Gateshead, Washington, Sunderland, Seaham, Mutron, Durham and Peterlee, but you should consider travel time in an emergency situation from addresses to our out of hours service provider when making your choice of veterinary practice, as our small animal out of hours service is now provided by Wear Referrals, Bradbury. We have had a vision about creating a special cat only veterinary practice that we would all like to work in because it is the kind of place we would choose to bring our own cats and family. This is the only totally self contained cat only vet practice in the North of England, based on the borders of Durham and Sunderland.

Mr Murphy graduated from Glasgow University in July 1984. He moved to the North East in 1986 and worked in various small animal practices before settling in Sunderland with his young family. He began working at Roker Park Veterinary Centre in August 1995 and replaced Jim Cowell as partner to John Pattinson in 1999. John retired in 2007. Mark now runs the practice with his wife and Practice Manager, Tracy.
